Meet Our Doctors
Dr. Hiran Fernando, D.D.S.
Dr. Hiran Fernando is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon who brings years of rigorous training and compassionate care to every procedure. Born in the Bronx and raised in Belvidere, IL, Dr. Fernando completed his undergraduate education at Washington University in St. Louis, followed by dental school at the University of Michigan. He then trained in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Rochester after completing an internship and teaching fellowship at The Ohio State University.
Known for his calm demeanor and dedication to patient education, Dr. Fernando creates an experience that’s both reassuring and informative. Outside of the office, he enjoys playing the violin, cooking, biking, and spending time with his family.
Dr. John Chiapel, D.D.S.
A St. Louis native, Dr. John Chiapel brings over two decades of experience to our surgical team. After graduating from De Smet Jesuit High School, Dr. Chiapel earned degrees in Psychology, Sociology, and Biology at Regis University in Denver, CO. He went on to attend Loyola University School of Dentistry and completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur, MO.
Dr. Chiapel has maintained a respected private practice in Wildwood, MO since 2001. In 2023, he expanded his commitment to patient care by joining Gateway Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of St. Louis. His approach is centered on trust, clarity, and building long-term relationships with his patients.
